The mission of the WT Sampson elementary and high school information centers is to insure that students, staff, and community members are effective users of information and ideas that inspire and prepare for success in a global environment.
There are 2 separate media centers, one at each of the 2 campuses of our school. The elementary campus media center is for students in Pre/K through 6th grade and the high school campus media center is for students in grades 7 through 12.
In addition to the school's media centers, the Naval Base also offers residents of Guantanamo Bay a wide variety of resources in the nearby base library.
W. T. Sampson High School Information Center
“ENCOURAGING EXCELLENCE”
by: WT Sampson HS Information Specialist
The Information Center at W. T. Sampson High School is open throughout the school day even though scheduled classes are being taught there for part of each day.
The Information Center welcomes all students and teachers in an information rich environment. It is a place for research, reading, and reflection. Quiet study and reading is expected at all times in the Information Center.
New books and video materials are being ordered and processed continually. Every patron of the Information Center should be able to find books to read for recreational purposes and other information for school work.
Fifteen computers are located in the Information Center. These computers contain the Library World card catalog and all other on-line connections available to students and teachers. Computers are for school work ONLY, and computer use is monitored.
There are two rules that will be enforced in the Information Center:
1. EVERYONE may use the Information Center
2. NO ONE may prevent anyone else from using the Information CenterBooks are checked out for two weeks and may be renewed for addition 2-weeks if needed. Overdue books result in the students’ not being allowed to check out other books until the overdue material is returned.
Seminar passes to the Information Center are issued by the student’s classroom teacher for SPECIFIC classroom work to be completed in the Information Center at Seminar block. In addition, each seminar teachers may send students from Seminar for book check-out.
